Tell us a little about your journey. How did you get started? When did you start your business? Why did you choose this business?

Driven and inspired by my mother and aunt being hair stylist for women, I was intrigued to challenge myself to specialize in men's grooming. My mother sent me away every summer in high school to my aunt’s salon to work as her apprentice and help her with whatever she needed. I spent most of my days sweeping up hair cleaning , making coffee, washing/folding towels, ordering lunch, scheduling appointments ,etc. My aunt noticed I was on top of everything and even started to tip me! Shortly after that I was buzzing heads in the salon. My aunt's salon was swamped with women but I noticed she always turned away mens haircuts. Astonishingly, one day I built up enough confidence to sit a man in the chair and give him a haircut. After graduating high school with my cosmetology license I pursued my career and got my first official job at SuperCuts. I then quickly excelled in the company and to find something that let me cater to my own craft. I’ve been in business for myself for 7 years now.

Was there someone who inspired you to start your business? Do you have a mentor you work with and do you think it’s beneficial to have one?

My aunt is the one who inspired me to start my own business and has been my mentor. I’ve learned it's best to have someone to give you a different perspective, someone to help guide your path. I definitely recommend getting a mentor.

What is the hardest part about owning a business?

The hardest part of owning your own business is accountability. If you are having a rough day there is no way you can bring that energy to your business. At the end of the day you are responsible for your attitude, actions, reactions, communication, & relationships that correlate with your business.

What is the best part about owning a business?

The best part about owning a business is you have no one to answer to but yourself. So in the end it makes you a better, stronger person. You’re A Boss!

When did you start using Booksy? Why did you start using the app, what made you realize you needed something like Booksy?

I started using Booksy 3 years ago. I realized I need help with keeping records of my huge client list. I could not manage the amount of texts and phone calls I was receiving to schedule an appointment. I was stressed and annoyed that I could not give 100% to my client in my chair. I needed an assistant!

How do you incorporate Booksy in your business?

I utilize Booksy’s 24/7 access online appointment system . Clients have full access to my schedule without having to communicate back and forth; making it so convenient for them to schedule their own appointment.

Which features do you like most in Booksy? What appealed to you compared to other booking services in the industry?

One of my favorite features in Booksy is the blacklist. We as professionals have the right to choose & refuse services to clients. Second, I really appreciate the marketing message blast feature. I love how you can send a message blast out to clients reminding them it's time to come in!

What advice do you have for people just starting out in the industry?

My advice for anyone who is just starting off in the industry is to get on a booking system, you are going to see how much you can scale your business. Most importantly, you will be respected & valued by your clients for having your own personal assistant.

What are your goals for your business in 2020?

2020 Goals - Share my experiences and the obstacles I’ve overcome in the industry, venture out of my city, and daily routines for inspiration to create, and most importantly continue my education in hair, business, and life!
