I disclosed a documented gel allergy before my appointment and brought my own topcoat for that reason. A different gel topcoat was applied, and I deve...loped a severe reaction within hours that worsened over the next 24–48 hours, which is a known timeline for gel allergies. I had to pay to get the set removed, purchase medication, and schedule medical appointments. When I reached out, I was told the reaction was ‘outside the window’ because my appointment was on Sunday and I reported it on Tuesday, despite the fact that gel allergies often worsen over 1–2 days. She only refunded my $15 tip after I asked for it and refused to refund the full service fee even after I explained the medical and financial impact. This was disappointing and unprofessional, especially given that I followed her handbook instructions by communicating my sensitivity. I hope future clients with product sensitivities are taken seriously.

Hi Ayanna, Thank you for your review. I want to clarify what happened for accuracy for future clients that may read your review . When you arrived, you mentioned that you might have had a reaction in the past from other appointments , but you did not describe a severe allergy. You were receiving an acrylic overlay, which normally does not involve regular polish. You brought your own “gel” topcoat for me to use, and during the service I noticed it was not curing correctly. I tested my professional topcoat, and you saw me switch products without asking any questions or expressing any concern. You later acknowledged that you did not say anything during the appointment. Acrylic and gel services involve multiple chemicals, not just one topcoat, so a reaction cannot be linked to a single product; especially when your own product was part of the service and did not perform properly. You contacted me 48 hours later, after symptoms had already developed. I reviewed your photos and explained that with the time passed and multiple factors involved, the exact cause could not be confirmed. I never mentioned anything about a reaction happening “outside the window.” Still, I refunded your tip as a courtesy. Clients with sensitivities must speak up during the service. No concerns were expressed at that time. I wish you the best. — ZNails 🦋
