    • Back Neck & Shoulders Massage

A back, neck and shoulder massage is an excellent treatment to soothe away aches, pains and stiffness promoting a deep sense of relaxation and renewed vitality. This treatment focuses on the area of the body that is a problem spot for most people. The neck and shoulders are areas where we tend to hold our tension and stress. Sustained postures such as sitting at a desk or computer all day, breast feeding or excessive emotional stress can contribute to muscular tightness and joint stiffness. Leaving this untreated can result in neck pain, headache or migraine. If you are suffering in specific areas, discuss this with the therapist prior to beginning of your massage, for best use of the available time.

    • Lymphatic Drainage - Massage

This light, with pumping action, massage stimulates the flow of lymph through the one-way drainage pathways, ridding excess fluid & swelling. Clients can further benefit from additional abdominal massage to initiate the parasympathetic activity and feel lighter in mind and body. NB - Initial consultation required prior to this Massage to see if the session is right for you - 30 mins appointment booked prior to this session What is it? This type of massage focusses on the lymphatic system, which is part of the immune system. Following a particular sequence, this light and relaxing massage stimulates the flow of lymph through the one-way drainage pathways of the body. Lymph moves water, protein, cells and electrolytes around the body and by stimulating this action, the tissues of the body are assisted in clearing excess fluid. What is the aim of the massage? It aims to help the body maintain proper blood circulation, body fluid balance, and immune functions. To reduce swelling (oedema) by increasing lymphatic drainage to the superficial lymph pathways. How is it performed? Using a series of gliding, compressing, stretching, and cupping motions over the body. The massage involves helping empty lymph nodes, helping soften tissues and help with the flow of lymph around the body. By applying gentle pressure around and over nodes and along the lymphatic pathways. Usually lymphatic drainage massage takes place in a heated room. & Benefits? This can help with: Sinus Problems, IBS, Fluid Retention, Swollen Legs and Ankles, Muscle Damage and Lymphoedema. Abdominal massage is optional. One of the best things you can do for your lymphatic system is to be more active. Even the most gentle activity will help encourage a healthy lymph flow, as movement of the muscles exerts pressure on the lymphatic vessels and keeps them moving. For those who are unable, MLD massage can help provide an alternative.

    • Deep Tissue Massage

This treatment uses deep manual therapy techniques of the soft tissue (muscles, ligaments and fascia) to improve the elasticity and flexibility of muscular and connective tissue (such as ligaments and fascia). Deep tissue is an excellent way to soothe sore and tight muscles, release stubborn muscular knots and increase blood flow to ensure a healthy musculoskeletal system. Is a deep tissue massage good for you? The deep tissue massage is highly recommended by most doctors for many people. This is because the slow finger pressure and firm strokes treats a range of physical ailments. Also, this type of massage enables you to release serotonin and oxytocin while boosting your moods and relaxation.

    • Hot Bamboo Massage

This holistic treatment uses heated bamboo canes especially formed for massage. The heat should feel quite warm but not uncomfortable. The warmth of the bamboo canes will help to penetrate deeper into the tissue which helps to achieve better and longer lasting results. The size of the cane depends on the area being treated. Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants (grasses) on earth, and is considered to have many healing properties. It is believed that bamboo massage has many healing properties which help to alleviate muscle tension; pain and ache; improve joint function; increase circulation and helps to enhance quality of sleep. It will also make you feel relaxed but energised at the same time. Bamboo massage helps to promote the circulation enhancing the flow of oxygen and nutrient rich blood to help with recovery and healing, helps to reduce various pains and aches such as lower back pain, neck and shoulder pains and aches and general muscle soreness. It may also help to tone up and loose weight by breaking down fat cells. During the application, the therapist will use several kneading, rolling and pressing techniques on the body used in treatments such as Swedish massage, sports massage and deep tissue massage. The movement and flow of the techniques is the same as if a therapist would use their hands, but instead, it is performed with bamboo canes. Some of the techniques might feel stronger than others, it might depend on how achy and sore you feel on the day of your appointment. If you have any questions about this or any of the treatments, please contact us. You can find us 2 mins from Barrow town centre, on 58 Hartington Street, located within South Lakes Physio Building, No 58.

Help restore balance to the body naturally working with the reflex points on the feet. Some of the benefits of reflexology include its ability to stimulate nerve function, eliminate toxins, increase energy, boosts circulation and induces a deep state of relaxation. Soles, tops, and sides of the feet correspond to a map of the body. By applying specialized massage techniques to specific reflex points - using the thumbs, fingers and knuckles – the aim of a reflexology treatment is to help restore balance to the body naturally, and improve the client’s general well-being. Some therapists also work reflex points on the hands, ears and face, however it is the feet that are most commonly treated in reflexology. Benefits of reflexology Reflexology can help to relieve anxiety and tension, encourage relaxation, improve mood and aid sleep, though some people use it to help them cope with more specific health challenges. • Crystal reflexology

Crystal Sole Healing is a full reflexology treatment, working the reflexes of the feet with crystals. This releases blocked energies before they can manifest into dis-ease, working to bring the body into balance and so it can heal itself. Crystal sole healing is a gentle yet powerful method. In Crystal Sole Healing we start with the chakras on the feet then work over the corresponding reflexes. Allowing the crystals to connect with the feet allows for any blockages or long held emotions to surface. It is holistic method and works on the physical, emotional and spiritual level. It is a safe, non-invasive and very gentle practice for most. This healing technique, that helps balance, heal and harmonise, it treats the whole person, supporting the mind and body physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. • Ear Candling / Lympahtic Facial

A Hopi Ear Candle treatment, along with lymphatic facial ~ a very light massage to improve the movement of lymphatic fluid, helps to clear blocked lymph nodes, increase the flow of oxygen and nutrients to cells and improve the condition of the skin ~ can be enjoyed purely for relaxation purposes, but the process is believed to be helpful for many problems and conditions, including Sinusitis Tinnitus Hay fever Catarrh Headaches Irritability and stress May help to loosen excessive ear wax Ear pressure due to flying Vertigo How Does It Work? The treatment involves placing an ear candle – a hollow tube made of unbleached cotton that is coated with natural ingredients such as beeswax, honey and herbs – into the ear canal. Treating each ear separately, as the candle gently burns down it is believed to act like a ‘chimney’ creating a light vacuum effect. The flicker of the flame also creates vibrations that massage the eardrum. The herbal vapours from the lit candle also swirl into the ear canal, helping to soothe and balance.

I had the 90 minute treatment including back neck and shoulder massage and reflexology. What can I say- wow! I am lucky enough that I have had ma...ssages and reflexology this year with other therapists. I went to see Bea having been recommended, and with an open mind. Bea spent a little time getting to know me and understand what I hoped to get out of my treatment. The next 90 mins kind of passed in a blur- I was so relaxed and comfortable. At the end of the treatment Bea gave some of her thoughts too. When I got in my car to drive home, I genuinely felt a bit like I was driving under the influence- so calm and slow in my mind! Next time I will plan a trip to Costa before going home- the one thing I’m really sure of, is that there will be a next time!!! Thanks Bea! Show more
