Had an appointment at 9. He wasn’t even at the shop…and he was the one who had to confirm the appointment. Called him…he said he’ll be there 15. Two p...hone calls to him after 9:30 and no answer. Then I get text at 9:39 saying “on my way”….but he said he’ll be there in 15 minutes at 9. Sat in the car to book another appointment with another Barber and he get there around 10 and act like everything good. That’s weirdo behavior. Left to go get a cut from another Barber. Show more

So first off I want to say Promise is a great barber. Very talented. I used to get compliments all the time about my haircuts and how sharp they would... be. This review is has nothing to do with his talent, but his reliability. When I first started going to Promise, he did a great job sticking to appointments for the most part. Once he moved to his new shop, things started getting really bad. I used to get my haircuts in the mornings, anywhere from like 9:30-10a so that I’d be his first appointment and didn’t have to wait. But he would routinely show up late, and there was one morning he didn’t show up at all despite telling me he was on his way, and I never heard from him after that. After that I changed jobs and starting getting my haircuts in the afternoons. Which was horrible. I would arrive at my scheduled time and have to wait more than an hour to get my haircut as I watched him cut others, even those that would come in after me. I would walk into the shop with something to read on my phone because I knew full well I wasn’t going to get my hair cut at the scheduled time. Earlier this year I even asked him one day (after waiting for an hour and fifteen minutes) if he would be better to go back to the mornings because of the wait. He said he understood where I was coming from and if I wanted to do that I could. Fast forward to today 10/24. I booked an appointment for 10a, thinking that I could be the first or one of the first of the day and keep it moving. I arrived at 9:40a, didn’t see him in the shop but wasn’t too worried about it since I knew I was very early. He texts me a few minutes after my arrival telling me that he’d be there at 10:30a. Reluctantly, I acknowledge it and tell him I’m already there, but ok, just have to wait a little longer so I set an alarm on my phone, and take a small nap. Alarm goes off at 10:30a, no Promise. I wait to text him until 10:39a asking if he was there yet. He tells me he’s on his way. I left at 10:50, as I’ve already been waiting for over an hour for him. He texts me at 11:18a telling me that he’s finally arrived. So had I stayed and waited, I would’ve had to sit in the parking lot for an hour and a half, over an hour and fifteen minutes past my appointment time. I like Promise, he’s a cool dude, and a talented barber. But the reliability is not there, and not only that, he raised his prices big time during the pandemic, so I’m paying more money, in addition to waiting longer to get my haircut. Thanks Promise for all that you’ve done over the years. I wish you well on your future endeavors. But if you need a cut and are reading this review, please proceed with caution. If you’ve got time to spare Promise is definitely your guy. But if you’re someone that thinks likes to stick to appointment time, I’d think twice. Show more

The best ability for any profession is availability. The one star rating is not because the man can’t cut hair, he’s an excellent barber When it comes... to cutting and styling hair, it comes from unprofessionalism. 80% of the time I’ve gone to him over the years I’ll schedule an appointment at the top of the hour And he may not even arrive at the barbershop for 30 minutes to an hour after that. You will not get updates on his location or how far he is away. It should never be like that for an appointment. This is repeated behavior that has happened for many years and if you book him it more than likely will happen to you. You can also expect to have him take lunch breaks while you’re waiting to be seen after making an appointment. I scheduled him for two major life events and made those events known to him at the time of booking, However he did not show up to the shop for either, I had to get someone else in the shop to cut my hair. You can go elsewhere and get a better cut skill wise all while the Barber is on time and $15-20 less at other places. I have gone to this man for years because I had no other barber so this review is not based off of one haircut but 100 haircuts. He has a lot of growing to do. Only book him on days that you have absolutely nothing to do, meaning you have nowhere else to be at a certain time. You will either be late for the event waiting for him, have to go to another barber last minute, or reschedule. don’t do it to yourself. I left this review to warn you. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. I did not leave this review to bash the brother, I left this to point out areas that he can improve in. Prince Georges county is a black county..meaning there is a lot of competition in this field…there are many barbers to choose from, it’s not like we live in a white area and he’s the only black barber around where he can do things like this and we don’t have an option to go elsewhere. THis review is strictly for his own improvement in areas where he has consistently been weak over the years. I personally will not be returning back to Promise. I’ve given him thousands of dollars in haircuts over the years, but I will not be giving him any more of my money. I wish him the best of luck in the future Show more
