Military Haircut

Mervyn was great. Really professional, friendly, and talented. I just don't think that any basic haircut is worth much over $30 much less over $60. ...I was willing to be proven wrong, so I gave them a shot, as high end barbers I've been to in the past provided full service and drinks (which they might do, but I was in uniform when I went). Given the price, my expectations were pretty high. My opinion hasn't changed. He cut my hair, albeit well, and gave me a mini water bottle, but thats it. No shampoo, no hot towel, no scalp massage, just a haircut. For those kinds of prices, I'd expect full service. It would seem like you need to pay even more for these services, though. The expectation to tip is also obvious. The default tips started at 18% which was another $10 on top of the cost of the basic haircut. You can enter a custom tip, but that really seems awkward with them holding a tablet out in front of them waiting for you to select their tip. They are also increasing their prices by 18% or more come June. If you dont mind the cost, they are the best barber shop I've seen in this area so far. I'll continue looking for something more affordable, but I may very well end up going back. All the others barbers I've been to were around $30 or so, but weren't nearly as good as Mervyn. It would be a hard pill to swallow to spend over $130 a month on standard haircuts (with no additional services) since I usually go every two weeks or so. Edit in response to owner: I genuinely don't remember a hot towel being provided, much less placed over my face. Did he wipe the back of my neck with it out of my view or something? When someone says "hot towel" at a barber shop, it means you're leaned back and the towel is on your face, which I'm sure you're aware of. No shampoo was offered, so that might be something you should perhaps ensure clients are aware of. I understand trying to save face a bit in the review section under your business, but contradicting the client entirely over your perceived technicality of truth is a bad look. He did watch me as I was paying, the tablet was in his hand. I always tip my barber, but 18% on a $55 sevice is excessive, but its the lowest available for you default options. I was in the chair for barely over 30 minutes. You are correct I was informed of your pricing, on the booksy app, but the reality of a situation sometimes is far more underwhelming than advertised. One would expect a $60+ (after tip), soon to be even higher, service would include more than just the basic haircut. Like i said before, Mervyn was great, so let not turn this into a tit-for-tat of trying to prove each other wrong over my honest review. You should know better. Show more

Hello Kirk, Thank you for your candid review. We value all of our clients highly. I understand this was your first visit with us. While we appreciate your concern about our prices, we have actually received positive feedback regarding our recent price adjustments. We haven't increased our prices since 2021, and we believe it’s time for an adjustment, especially since other establishments in the area have done so. We take pride in continuing our education, keeping up with the latest trends, and using new tools, unlike many others in the area who may not prioritize these aspects of hairstyling. Regarding the hair wash, we offer it upon request and would be happy to provide one next time if you'd like. As for the tipping option, we never expect a tip to be given but it will always be appreciated. There is an option for you to do a lower or higher percentage rate besides the Square apps set percentages. We also don’t “watch you to pick our tip” Additionally, I spoke with Mervyn and reviewed the camera footage, and I can confirm that he did provide you with a hot towel. We genuinely appreciate your feedback but also believe it’s worth noting that you were informed about our pricing and services when you booked your appointment.
