I have been a chronic pain sufferer for over 18 years. Brannigan is the only massage therapist I have ever met who can specialize services to my needs.... Her experience, knowledge, passion and sheer strength are evident in every intervention she offers. I have never been able to trust someone to work on certain areas because the pain has always been so intense and emotional. Brannigan is incredible in her ability to read my body as well as attend to the emotional impact of releasing all of that pain and tension. She offers many different forms of massage and is so knowledgeable, I always walk away pain free, with ideas about how to manage my pain better, and often referrals to other care providers too since she is so connected and respected in the community. I will never see anyone else if I have the choice. I consider it a privilege to be able to book with her, as her client base seems to stay with her for a long time, since she is so attentive and has such great capacity for remembering everyone’s unique needs.

This was definitely a spa-spin on deep tissue, and in that respect, it might be a good fit for a lot of folks. She certainly has a nice touch. But in ...no way would I classify it as "clinical" deep tissue as she advertises it. I know she claims to be proficient at myofascial release, but despite my request to not use a lot of oil, she used way too much, and didn't focus on my external rotator cuff fascia, as was requested. One of the basic tenets of MFR is only using a very small amount of lubricant, otherwise you cannot get fascial release. So essentially she didn't listen, and didn't check in at all either. I requested elbow pressure, and she spent the majority of the time using her hands. If you have scar tissue build up, fibrosis or serious chronic pain, I do not recommend Brannigan, unfortunately. She also seems to have a big ego about her skill level, and didn't seem to respect that I know what I need as an LMT myself, who has been living in my body my whole life. She referred me to a "structural integration" therapist who I had seen before and was perhaps one of the most unskilled practitioners I had ever seen in my life. Both Brannigan and the person she recommended do not experience chronic pain, so I really don't think they can truly empathize with clients who have exceptional or different needs. Portland's standards for what is true clinical bodywork is very low.

I’m sorry you felt your needs could not be met. You gave me an impossible task of releasing years of fascia inches thick in 30 mins. You canceled your massage you had with me and then I went out of my way to reschedule you back in after you wanting to make an appointment. After realizing I will never meet your needs and tried to refer you to a person who tremendously helped me relieve my chronic pain after 4 whiplash accidents, I was hoping that could help you in some way. Call it ego I call it trying to find you a solution. I hope you find what you are looking for but please stop trashing massage therapists only trying to help you.
