This is my 2nd visit to this nail salon in Beverly Hills. The first time I visited I had yet to experience a true "Russian" or "dry" manicure so I ha...d no point of reference. During my first visit, overall I was pleased but had no reference point to compare to a true dry manicure. This past summer, I discovered a true Russian nail studio in Burbank that delivers flawless manicures and pedicures. Because the studio is located in Burbank, I decided to try Coco Kay again since it is near my house. With all that said I would give Coco Nails a 4 star only because it is not a true "Russian" manicure. The technician diligently filed and trimmed my nails, all the while offering advice on how to grow healthier nails without having to add extensions, sage advice indeed. While she noted my nails were thin and weak, she still over buffed and over filed my natural nails that they became even more sensitive. She repeated this buffing process multiple times throughout the gel x extension process. After I thought she had finished that part, she proceeded to use a small scissor to trim more of the cuticle despite using the drill previously. A few times she nicked my skin, too. Ouch! In terms of the shape, I originally requested short to medium length. But, she applied long extensions, so I asked for them to be trimmed. The shaping process could have been more precise as a few nails appeared crooked and uneven. Not a big deal. Also, a difference in her application technique is worth noting. She applied the gel x extension a few millimeters noticeably shy of the cuticle. And then she used the drill once again to blend it with my natural nail. I was surprised she did this given her expressed concern over my weak nails. So, now we are shaving off more of my natural nail to blend the gel x extension with my nail? Why didn't you just apply it closer to my cuticle? I had never experienced this before with Gel X. In terms of the nail polish application, I was disappointed. In my prior experience with Russian salons, the technician rarely (if ever) makes mistakes with the application as they use different applicators to balance the amount of polish although it is probably a completely different product. In this case, she had to make a few corrections using the wood stick and polish remover. No biggie. But once I left and saw them in the sunlight, the two coats of red polish appeared uneven on most of my nails. I probably should have asked for a 3rd coat to ensure that the polish application was opaque. The worst part is that the polish settled unevenly, and I had not noticed it in the salon. Some of the nail beds were thicker, raised and more unnatural looking. With all that said, the salon is clean and the tech clearly takes pride in her work. I found her to be friendly and welcoming ensuring my comfort throughout. She applied hand lotion and oil drops to the cuticle as a final touch and even used a brush with nail polish remover to clean the nails before I left. That was all noticed and very much appreciated. But when I compare the services between Coco Kay and the Russian nail salon in Burbank, it doesn't come close given the cost ($120). If you are looking for a really good manicure with good attention to detail, you won't be disappointed. Coco Kay is one of the better nail salons in Beverly Hills and the price point reflects that. But if you are looking for a true Russian manicure experience, look elsewhere, like Burbank. Show more
