The Barber shop that I used to go to for over 21 years burned down last year. I’ve been to several different, barbers and up till now I thought I woul...d be waiting for them to re-open. OK, so.... I find myself traveling quite alot, and I call Colorado my home, as it's where I actually live. However, the amount of time I spend in Cali...fornia (specifically Morgan Hill, CA) where I come to help manage projects with my large family-owned and operated property management company, leaves me looking a bit, well, transient looking I'd say. For the times out that I spend 2 or 3 weeks away from my actual home, I have no savior to my grooming needs (which I pride myself on, looking professional and well-maintained). Hang in there, this is where the story really takes off in the right direction. It JUST so happens that I arrived at a moment in my immediate life where I couldn't stand waiting longer to come back to Colorado to meet with my very choice, very accomplished barber, who knows the intricate and particular ins-and-outs of my personal hair preferences. This moment led me down a path of which I THOUGHT would be a frantic shuffling of pages and horrible reviews. Though I was mentally ready for this journey to find the great artisan who could deliver the care I was looking to receive....it just seemed so natural, maybe even serendipitous, that I fall upon the extremely talented and sincerely welcoming barbering artist that goes by the heroic name of Jairo. Him and his extremely lovely and intelligent other half Suzy (who also runs the other half of the soon-to-be sold out services offered) took care of me like I was a VIP at a level enjoyed by the likes of Kanye or Gordon Ramsay. He gave me the haircut and beard trimming/straight razor shave that I've never had the pleasure of having received anywhere else, as well as them both indulging me in a clinical dive into the deep knowings of men's skin care, in ways I will always use from this point on. The biggest gift I took from this beautiful, California sun drenched afternoon spent with such artisans of their own crafts, was not actually the crafts themselves. It was the absolute care and precision in which they performed trying to simply make someone happy, comfortable, and sincerely welcome. I can tell you by 36 years of perpetually trying to find a great barber, and KEEP that great barber in your life, you find alot of things that you do and do NOT like. For me, it all comes down to the time and care they give you in the experience they hopefully try to provide. Not stacking waiting dudes at the door. Not hurrying through and making you feel like they're late for something else. Just letting you have the experience that makes you want to do something like write 3 paragraphs on Google about a haircut. THAT's what it's about. Jairo and Suzy, thank you for giving me a piece of home away from home. Hopefully I'll be able to get an appointment at any point with how popular you'll both become when word gets out about your level of work and focus. True success starts with all the ingredients you two bring to the table....And for those who read this review all the way to this point, enjoy your visit to Studio 1017 Barbershop and Spa, you definitely will not be let down for your choice.
