Martika does great work. I’ve gone to her for multiple braid downs after my mom’s recommendation and she’s received services for box braids and twists.... She has received 3 silk presses from Martika- each beautifully done. I recently went to her to try for myself and it turned out lovely. The only issue arose when it was time to pay- The service is $50 when you book, noting it includes a “shampoo, condition, blow dry, and style” in the service with optional add ons including cut, curls on crown, and relaxer. Obviously the “shampoo, condition, blow dry” option was not on this list because as i previously mentioned it is clearly stated on this booking website that it is all included. When she’s done with the service I hand her the $50 along with a $30 tip as I was a server not too long ago and believe service workers are undervalued. She then corrected me and told me with the wash the total is $100. I show her her literal website and where it says all of this information and she says she’ll “let me slide” but next time it’s $100. My mom has confirmed the price was $50 with all the listed services included because that’s what she was charged all 3 times she went. I pulled out $20 and handed it to her because as I said I have no issue paying, but I knew i was being taken advantage of. If you go for a blow dry, shampoo, and condition alone it is $40 ($50+$40=$90), but in the case it’s being added to a service it is typically $35 ($50+$35=$85). That is a $10 and $15 deference than what I was told IF that were true, but mind you as it says in the website and my mother’s 3 VISITS OF THE EXACT SAME SERVICE, a shampoo, condition, and blow dry is included in the service. I am typically generous when it comes to tipping and I usually leave $15-$20 to show extra appreciation for her work despite the fact that I am a college student who works full time and pays for everything on my own. For her to try to lie to me and take advantage of that generosity is low and giving doing hair in my basement type ghetto. I really don’t mind being around ghetto stylists if they’re doing my hair right, and honestly if she really wanted she could 100% charge more, but what I don’t appreciate is when people lie to take advantage of you. I would still leave a generous tip even if the service was $100 as her work once again is good, but turning my $30 tip to a $50 tip/ charging me double the service because she feels like it is not something I stand for. She needs to up her price on the website or sit down and stop with the ghetto scamming with her already ghetto attitude. I would definitely recommend Martika though if you want your hair to look nice and want to get robbed. I am not able to respond to replies I suppose but wanted to say you’re absolutely welcome as well as absolutely welcome to share your side as to my knowledge you did not contact me, but my mother saying there was a ‘misunderstanding’. I am an adult as are you. I would love to here what your definition of a ‘misunderstanding’ is as I clearly understood your words especially when you repeated it would be “$100 next time” after offering to “let me slide” when I showed you your own website which should not have even been needed as you know your own prices and what you have charged my mother for the exact same service 3x in a row prior. I am not a thief, but I will not be taken advantage of. You can feel free to share with the public or contact me personally to clear up anything i’ve missed as I feel I did a great job clearly addressing and explaining everything that happed as well as why it would be even more upsetting then just the part of you trying to rob me. Thanks.
