Countless times over the past about 6 years, I’ve cooperated with Austin—rescheduling appointments, waiting on him being late, re-planning same-day vi...sits later than my scheduled time, etc.—without a single complaint. Yesterday, I came in for a haircut and beard appointment, and we were trying a new style. During that session, I asked if he could trim my beard. It was long overdue, and I wanted to sync up my beard and hair trims, so I could do both during the same appointment again in 6 months. Austin said he’d trim it, but later told me he didn’t have a beard straightener or beard oil—things he said were ideal given my beard’s coarseness. Still, he said he’d try to grab them after his next appointment and get me back in later that day to finish. He said he’d message me with the plan after that next client. At the appointment itself, for my beard, he only edged my cheek lines. Even so, I paid full price for both a haircut and beard service, plus a $10 tip, trusting he’d honor his word. He didn’t message me. I reached out two hours after I left to check in. No reply after a couple hours. Then I sent a follow-up, and eventually that night he got back to me, saying his phone was acting up. We talked and agreed I could swing by the next day after work. Earlier that day I told him I was starting a new job the next day and had wanted to look sharp with both hair and beard freshly trimmed—but still, as I’ve done many times before, I cooperated without complaint. The next morning, Austin texted asking to meet at 12:30 instead of 1:30, the time we had agreed upon. I said I’d try to get off early and reminded him of my clock-out time. He said, “take your time.” I texted him when on the way and arrived at 12:50. He had someone in the chair and at least one person waiting. He told me to maybe come back in about an hour. I did. When I returned, he said he had just begun the haircut for the guy I saw waiting earlier. I decided to wait in the shop, rather than driving around burning more gas. After about 30–45 minutes, he told me I might as well come back again later, since he had a 3 p.m. appointment coming in. I finally asked whether, logically, I shouldn’t precede that next appointment—considering he said he’d finish the service from the day before, which I’d already paid for in full plus a tip. At that point, Austin became aggressive, cursed at me, and accused me of hurting his business. I tried to reason with him, staying peaceful in my tone and conduct, but I ultimately left the shop saddened. In my view, this was unprofessional—not just in that moment, but reflective of a broader pattern I had overlooked for years. I’ve been loyal and patient for 6 years, and this was the first time I asked for accountability in return. His failure to offer basic understanding after all that is something I can’t just sweep under the rug. It’s bittersweet—he truly is a talented barber, and it’s not easy to start fresh with someone new. But I don’t know if I could’ve continued turning a blind eye to this kind of inconsistency and disregard for professionalism much longer anyway. I hope this message is read by clients or potential clients—and most importantly by Austin—not with malice, but for transparency, accountability, and, hopefully, growth. Show more
