I'm originally from Los Angeles, and had recently gotten my head shaved on Red Table Talk for Jada Pinkett Smith's 50th birthday. However, I didn't re...alize how quickly hair grows back! I had a couple hours to kill, and Private Slice was the closest barber shop to my air BnB within walking distance as I hauled 50 lbs in 100 degree weather to make my next destination. I called at least 3x and was ready to give up since I was melting like a popsicle with my luggage, and he finally called back while taking me in immediately for an appointment. Little did I expect to meet the coolest person in Phoenix, AZ! I learned I have a small bald spot on the back of my head that's only visible with a shaved head from a mystery accident, and he did the most artistic lines that connected from my sides to my back so that I no longer felt embarrassed by it. I wish I had a picture of it (only a video clip that I can't upload here) because I received compliments EVERYWHERE I went. One older white man even exclaimed it was "magnificent" and a work of art, which made me feel sexier than Mona Lisa. Getting my hair buzzed by Mike was like reconnecting with a long lost friend as we discussed self care (look out for his cereal scented candles), anime, and adulting (since we are the same age and it was his birthday the day before)! He was also kind enough to refer me to other places nearby to try out, making me feel like a local for a hot second. I'll need to come back to check out the open mics, and already fell in love with this city with its hospitality. Go get a fresh start with Mike, whom I now dub thee as Michelangelo! Show more
