It started with my friends. Every week, one by one, they came back looking sharp, their fades so clean it looked like Gbandz had used a ruler. They wo...uldn’t shut up about him. “Yo, Gbandz is the truth,” Juan said, checking himself out in the reflection of every passing window. “The man’s a magician with clippers.” “Nah, for real,” Alejandro added, scrolling through Gbandz’s Instagram. “Look at this lineup. He’s a whole artist.” Even Joseph , who barely cared about his appearance, said, “Yeah, he’s legit. You should book.” At first, I shrugged it off. How good could one barber be? But after a while, curiosity got the best of me. I followed his page, watched a few of his videos, and finally decided to give it a try. If my boys trusted him, why not? I booked for Thursday morning, the last slot before the thanksgiving rush. When I got there, the shop was buzzing with energy. The sound of clippers, the low hum of music, and bursts of laughter filled the air. Gbandz was coming outside for me, after finishing up with a client. He was tall, with a sharp style of his own—Sandals, a fresh fade, and an air of confidence that made it easy to see why everyone liked him. “Diego Kun!!!,” he said when he saw me, flashing a quick smile. “Come in. Hop in the chair.” I nodded and took a seat, the cape snapping around me with practiced ease. “Yeah, the bruzz won’t stop talking about you,” I said, glancing at him through the mirror. “Oh, word?” he replied, his grin widening. “ “They said you’re the best. I had to see for myself,” I said, trying not to sound too impressed. “Say less. Let’s make it happen.” We fell into an easy rhythm. Gbandz was quirky and quick-witted, asking about everything from thanksgiving plans to weekend plans while working on my cut. He had this way of making you feel like the most important person in the room. Every motion was deliberate, every fade seamless. It was clear he took pride in his craft. By the time he finished, I didn’t even need to see the mirror to know he’d nailed it. When he spun the chair around, my reflection said it all—flawless fade, clean lines, sharp angles. “Damn,” I muttered, running a hand over my head. “You really are that guy.” He smirked, leaning casually against his station. “Told you. I don’t miss.” As I stood to pay I had a warm feeling stir in the air between us. It was subtle, but it was there. I reached for his hand to shake it, but as our fingers brushed, I froze. For a moment, something sparked—a quiet, electric connection I couldn’t explain. Without thinking, I leaned in slightly, unsure of what I was even doing. Gbandz tilted his head, his smirk turning into a grin. “You good?” he asked, his voice low and teasing. Realizing what I’d done, I stepped back quickly, laughing awkwardly. “Yeah, yeah, my bad,” I stammered. He chuckled, shaking his head. “Next time, book the VIP cut for that kind of attention,” he joked, his tone playful. I left the shop feeling a mix of embarrassment and intrigue.
