I want to recommend Alex, she was kind and skillful at styling, but there was a problem with our communication. My hair went from my waist to my shoul...ders when I was only expecting a ~4” trim. Before she started, I even told her a story about a time I was so depressed when I got my hair cut to my chin/shoulders against my wishes, and then she did the same thing. I was anxiously prepared with a few notes about what I wanted, plus inspo pics of women with chest/waist-length hair. I told her, “Nothing crazy, just wanna trim my dead ends.. add long layers.. maybe some face framing bits”, and “I’d rather come back sooner for another trim than leave feeling like I got too much cut off today”. She explained that I had a lot of dead ends and hair loss due to stress, which I expected, and that she would need to cut my hair to my mid-chest. I was fine with that! However, she started with the back of my head and I couldn’t see how short it was until it was too late, and now my hair is hovering at my shoulders once it’s dry. It is not even to my mid-chest while wet. I think she could tell I was stressed out, and tried to reassure me that my hair would grow faster now, but that doesn’t really make sense to me. She prioritized her ideas about what was healthiest for my hair over what I was comfortable with, and even told me “I would have went shorter but I didn’t want to send you into full shock”. We weren’t on the same page, and I don’t know how I could have communicated clearer. I’m feeling so sad going into my 30th birthday this month with half of my hair length gone. My curly hair appointment has got me learning how to straighten my hair just to have some kind of length. Show more

Hello Amalija, I regret to hear about your negative experience. Your hairs optimum health will always be my priority so I wish you would have felt comfortable coming to me with your concerns. I didn’t cut away all of the damaged hair but I’m confident in 6-7 weeks you’ll experience the growth and full potential of your curls that can only be achieved with routine maintenance (it's similar to the growth that results from pruning a plant with dead leaves). As we discussed in your consult and the end of your first appointment this would be the only cut so significant and the rest proper trims. I hope you’ll give your curls the chance to reach their full potential through the routine I shared and after our time exchanging stories I truly wish you well if we don’t meet again.
