Natural Glam Makeup

My review Two stars. I went in for a wig install and soft glam makeup. I had a lot of questions for the owner, Caprice, prior to the appointment. Sh...e was super responsive and helpful before our session. The hair and makeup looked amazing as I got out of the chair. I tipped generously for a job well done. I was happy as I left the salon. Everything was all good here. I took off three stars because: 1) Within a day, it was clear the braid-down was too tight. It gave me terrible headaches and an outbreak of tension bumps on my hair line (photo). I was taking Tylenol multiple times a day for a week. 2) I texted to let the owner know I was having issues, and she didn’t get back to me at all. When I didn’t hear from her, I took the install down myself. It hurt that badly. 3) When I followed up with her again a day or two later, the owner denied that anything was wrong with the install. She blamed my week of headaches and rash of tension bumps on me being “tender-headed”. The tone of the message was snarky and defensive. In sum, her fees for the lace wig install are high ($435) and I tipped her well for how good the final look was coming out of the chair. Later, when I had an issue with my install as a result of the overly tight braids/sew-in and asked for help, she was dismissive and made it seem like it was my fault. That felt terrible. Despite paying over $500 to get my hair done, I was very disappointed by the lack of professionalism and customer service that was demonstrated in my case. I wasn’t complaining about the look, I was complaining about being in pain … about my scalp and hair health. It’s not normal to have 5 days of splitting headaches and rash of tension bumps after a wig install. To be told otherwise just doesn’t make any sense. Again, the experience also had positive highlights - which is why the review is 2 stars, and not less. The wig and makeup were very beautiful. My only issue was the pain, and how poorly she responded when I approached her about the issue. REPLY TO OWNER'S RESPONSE 1) When I saw the owner the day after the install for the makeup appointment, I didn't mention headaches because I expected some pain and discomfort immediately after a wig installation. I was taking Tylenol and waiting for it to fade. What I didn't think was reasonable - was for the intense pain to continue unabated for 5+ days. The tension bumps hadn’t appeared yet. I texted her when they did. 2) We did not try multiple hair styles, as she claims. We discussed the possibility of seeing multiple looks, but ended up only trialing one. 3) The experience wasn't all bad, which is why this review is 2 stars - instead of less. Before the appointment, Caprice spent a significant amount of time answering my questions and consulting with me about the hair and getting the wig bleached and plucked. During the install, we had a nice time chatting. The hair and makeup looked stunning. After the install, she gave me advice via text on what products to use. Throughout all this, she was friendly and very responsive. I tipped her 18-20% on the services, paying over $600 in total for hair and makeup. Though expensive, I considered this a worthwhile investment in my bridal consultation process. I assumed (wrongly) that her premium prices would mean that she would be committed to customer satisfaction as part of her brand. 4) My negative experience began when I complained about the headaches and wig discomfort - Caprice did a complete 180 on me. This was totally unexpected, given the prior interactions. She disappeared from text until I chased her down, and she was defensive and dismissive of my complaint - a complaint that was about being in pain - not that something was wrong with the look itself. This complaint was about hair health. As such, I was hoping for a more sympathetic response, and for her to demonstrate that she cared about me and the health of my hair. Please understand that during working hours, I prioritize my focus on providing the best possible service to my clients, and therefore do not engage in phone or text conversations while working as I am committed to responding after my working hours. I want to emphasize that not only did I spend my hard-earned time making sure that everything was correct but I also went above and beyond by allowing you to come back the next day for your make up appointment where you never mentioned anything about tension nor did you mention terrible headaches. Not only did you not mention anything being wrong with the install but you also texted the same day of your appointment and requested that we try out different styles at the time of your make up appointment where I changed your side part to a middle part and re-curled your hair. I feel that your review may not fully reflect the level of service and attention that I provided to you. I had absolutely excellent experience with Caprice at Devine Beauty Studio.Although mine was just through a consultation she was very thorough in what... she could provide in terms of taking me on as a client. I was a little late for my appointment & offered to pay her extra for her time. She said don’t worry about that . She knew I missed my turn & got lose. The shop was very clean. The other stylist was very welcoming & it is a one stop salon. She has everything you need to get your hair done. You don’t have to run all over town look for hair or anything you need.
