I had a couple of driving breakthroughs with Melvin today, particularly with merging into left lanes and parallel parking. He is patient and takes the... effort to explain theory by demonstrating things in person (in my case, how objects in the side view mirror are much closer than they seem). I would not recommend this company. I had a lesson with the owner, Charles Smith, which was a horrible experience. First, he was late, and instead of ...teaching, he acted more like a backseat driver, not making me feel comfortable behind the wheel. His critiques contradicted what I had learned from previous lessons with this company. As I tried to adjust to his teaching method, if you want to call it that, and keep focus on the road, he made it extremely difficult. At one point during the lesson, he grabbed the wheel because he assumed I wouldn’t make a turn when I was about to. He then abruptly stopped my lesson and said we were done. Charles told me that he didn’t care that I had paid for a lesson and he would not continue. Charles is arrogant and completely unprofessional, claiming he has 20+ years of experience but acting like an immature child. This was a complete waste of time and money. Then, to respond to my experience and accuse me of endangering myself and him is highly offensive. I might not be the best driver, but I know it is very dangerous to grab the wheel from someone, and anyone with 20 years of experience should know that as well. I was not being aggressive when accelerating. I might have tapped it with a little more pressure than needed at times, but at no point did he give me the impression I was endangering anyone. At the end of the day, as a PAYING client, I was very disappointed with the experience, especially from the owner of the company. If I had not called to complain about the owner, who said he did not care what I thought, I would not have received a partial refund. Show more

Hello Christopher, we are sorry to hear about your negative experience with us. Sometimes instructors have to make tough calls for the safety of the client, the instructor and the vehicle. Mr. Smith, owner of C. A. S Driving School has been teaching for over 20 years, and is a retired Roadtest Examiner for the DC DMV. When instructors give instructions repeatedly and it is not being received or completely ignored, it is up to the driving instructor to decide whether or not they would like to continue, and vice versa. If a client does not like the way they are being taught "grabbing the wheel" etcetera, it is up to the client to decide whether or not they would like to continue. So in that situation, Mr. Smith had repeatedly asked, that the acceleration not be pressed so aggressively so he made the executive decision for his safety and the safety of his vehicle, to end the lesson early and process a refund for the time that was remaining.
