I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at this salon. As a long-time customer, I have always appreciated their braiding skills, but thi...s visit was unacceptable. The braider arrived 2.5 hours late without any proper notice, and I only received a vague update after already waiting for 46 minutes past my appointment time. The braider I chose through booksy was not the one who ended up braiding my hair, which was not a problem initially. So once they started, I let her know the style I wanted and it was acknowledged. However, against my request, the braider did something different than what I asked. I was not happy, especially as it added 3 more hours to the braiding time compared to what would have been shorter with the style I requested. While the style looked decent, at the end of the day, they were not at all respectful of me or my time by ignoring my request. The braiders at this salon have been late to my appointment in the past and they were able to offer me a discount due to their lateness back then. However, I was appalled when they refused to offer any discount for their significant tardiness for this visit. When I confronted them about it they said that they gave me a “better” style so that should make up for it. It is frustrating since I do not live close to the salon and it took several hours by public transportation to get there on time, yet, my time was wasted. Despite their talent in braiding, the unprofessionalism I encountered during this visit is simply not worth it and I will not be coming back here. Show more

My braids tur...ned out absolutely perfect and just like I had imagined. I booked the appointment through Booksy and then we communicated via text for all the details of the appointment and she always replied quickly and provided helpful information. I would absolutely recommend coming here to a friend bc I got exactly what I wanted. I will definitely be back! Show more

I recently visited Mama African Hair Braiding and had an incredible experience! I got cornrows, and they were done exactly as I wanted. One of the bes...t parts was that the braider didn't pull my hair too tight, so I didn't suffer from headaches afterward. The tension during the braiding session was just right, and it was so comfortable that I even fell asleep a few times. The atmosphere was relaxing, and the braider was gentle and attentive to my needs. To top it all off, the price was very reasonable, making the whole experience even better. I will definitely be returning to Mama African Hair Braiding for my future hair needs. Highly recommend! Show more

I booked because of the good reviews but unfortunately my experience wasn’t so pleasant. I booked a 1pm appointment and after texting the owner asking... if I should come washed and blow dryed I was asked if I could move my appointment up to 5pm. I agreed to do so. I arrived at 4:30 the doors was closed, I called at 4:55pm and was told a woman would come downstairs to let me in the shop. The lady came down and I was led into a studio apartment with a man and child. She said she’s going to be doing my hair. I didn’t book to get my hair done by her or in her apartment but because I’m new in town and have very limited time I was just going to go with it. I then told the lady I needed my hair washed and dryed after calling the lady back that was originally supposed to do my hair she told me they lost the key to the shop so my hair wasn’t going to be able to get washed but she can still blow dry it and braid it. Unless I wanted to go home and wash my hair then come back. I declined and just walked out. It took me 40 mins one way to get to the shop. Very disheartening the reviews from other people who actually made it in were great. I just didn’t get the chance. Unfortunately I won’t be attempting to book again. This isn’t to tear a business down but this is to inform the owner that putting new clients in uncomfortable situations like that is not okay. If I knew I wouldn’t be in the shop would’ve never showed up. Show more

Horrible. I am going to keep this professional. Braider made me wait 45mins before having some random girl attempt to blow dry my hair. Instead of usi...ng detangler she chose to rake through my hair, pulling my hair in utter pain. Then there was the unprofessional debate about price. The website stated one price, i described via text what I wanted, sent pictures, with a thumbs up from owner Fatou, then get there, and now price changed. They reluctantly kept the price but didn't give what I asked for, had to back off of what I wanted or pay more money. The braider was an hour and half past the three hours time quote. I hate the way my hair looks. It's my anniversary today, and my husband says I look like the cowardly lion from oz. Big puffy locs. Yes, the braider asked if she could fix anything, I was too pissed to talk, just paid and left. Braider ( fatima) braids to hard with people with fine hair. I have a searing headache. I just wasted money and will be taking my hair down. Canceled my dinner plans since I left late and hate my hair, Thank you, Mama africa, for wasting my time. Show more

I’ve been twice. I have thick shoulder length hair and they almost always finish in 4-6 Hours. First time i got waist length took maybe 5 hours came o...ut flat and lasted long (with wash and upkeep). Comfortable environment. reasonable prices waist length i spent 325 the second time spent 290 for mid back. Definitely recommended Show more

However, she was about an hour late to my appointment with little notice (after I h...ad to contact her) which was the main inconvenience as I took Uber so avoid parking, so I was standing outside for about an hour as the shop was closed until she came, but as long as timing won’t be a future issue I would come back to her.
