My Braids Are Always Perfect at Mama Africa! I've been going to Mama Africa for my men's braids for months now, and every single time, she does an abs...olutely perfect job. Seriously, I'm always amazed at how consistently great my hair looks. Not only does she nail the style and neatness every time, but her prices are also incredibly reasonable. I had two appointments: take down and boho braids. They did the take down and washed it. Then sent me on my way. I told them I had a boho appointment ...in 10 minutes. Then they asked a million questions. They didn’t get to my 8:30am appointment until 10am. Then, my $450 boho appointment went to $700 because they never told me the hair wasn’t included in the price nor did they say I needed to bring my own…. They told me (over text) that they had the color I sent and the hair. I left the shop with my hair done in two colors I never asked for at 6pm. Show more

I called a week before my appointment to confirm if I needed to bring my own hair, the person I spoke to was Ariane. She SPECIFICALLY said I only need...ed to provide the curly hair for my knotless braids. Ok fine. My braider was late. Myself and another customer waited outside for them to arrive. I booked my service for Fatima, but it turns out she was double booked at 9am with the person I was waiting outside with so I was given another braider without any explanation. Fatima then asks me “what did the price say when you booked?” This should have been a red flag for me. But, I pulled up my Booksy app to show her my appointment and that the service I booked said $425. She says “ok” and walks away to start servicing her other client. But I was curious why I was asked how much the price was. Shouldn’t you know the prices of your own business?? The lady doing my hair was kind and polite. However, I don’t appreciate someone eating and doing my hair at the same time. If you need a break, no problem I totally understand. But eating food while touching my hair is completely unprofessional. Once my hair was done. I paid my braider $430 in cash, said thank you and proceeded to leave. My braider and Fatima begin to tell me that I still owe $25. Apparently the $425 service does not include the braiding hair. OK that’s fine. HOWEVER…. That was not told to me when I called the week prior, it was not mentioned when Fatima asked “what did the price say when you booked?” When I explained to them that was not communicate to me, Fatima rudely says “Did you see on the site that the price includes the hair?” Your site doesn’t mention that hair is not included in the pricing! So when you asked me how much did it say when I booked, that was your opportunity to COMMUNICATE that. Especially since it is not mentioned. I have never been to a braider that does not include the cost of the hair in their pricing when they are providing the hair. NEVER. So, even though I felt like I was being taken advantage of, I sent a Zelle to Ariane for the remaining balance. You had no problem asking me to pay the additional $25… but you didn’t bother to ask if I wanted my pictures and videos taken to be posted on your page for FREE MARKETING. I politely told Ariane to ask the braider not to post any pics or videos she took of my hair without my consent. I paid for a service, not to be a hair model. Hopefully they will respect and honor my request. I have had so many bad experiences with braiders being unprofessional, not knowing how to properly communicate, and ALWAYS late. This place is AN HOUR away from me and I still was hoping for a better outcome. It’s not about the money, it’s about running a PROFESSIONAL business. If I was told everything upfront I would not be leaving such a long review. But I am sick and tired of going through these situations when I’m trying to support someone’s business.
