Was seen a full hour after arriving on time for my loc retwist appointment as the stylist was finishing up on another clients braids, and was not seen... by Lima herself which confused me, but I was understanding and waited. The stylist that did do my hair was very kind, but I would definitely not recommend this salon for natural locs. They used an extreme amount of gel in my hair that stayed thick on my head for several days. They also sprayed a ton of hairspray that would be used more so for synthetic braids all over my locs. My hair felt heavy and sticky for a full week, and so saturated with gel that I had to squeeze it out of each loc. I ended up washing it all out, but have a feeling I will have buildup in my locs. I appreciate the attempt at doing a retwist, and the stylist was very kind but the technique was more suited for braids and synthetic hair with that excess use of gel. I got the impression that the stylist had not done locs / natural hair before. I would only recommend this salon for synthetic hair and braids. If you have locs you might end up with buildup. Booked for knotless boho small/medium for $400. First off, Ume was great and did a wonderful job. She was done well before the 7.5hrs allotted for my ...appointment. I was out in 5 hrs. Though she didn’t speak English, she was very attentive. Lima didn’t seem to want to be bothered and the energy was off, but you give people grace and I had to communicate through her. She had her own client and seemed quite busy, so no big deal. When paying for the service with Lima, I noticed there were additional charges— $30 for braiding hair and $75 for 2 bundles 100g (the curls). Online there is no indication that you’ll be charged extra when you book for boho unless you want them extra full with additional 4 bundles added. I don’t mind paying, just be transparent. I expected curls to be included based on the style booked. When I questioned the up-charges, Lima mentioned it was for the hair, which I reminded her I brought in myself. She took off the $30, but the extra $75 charge remained for adding curls to the braids. $475 mid-back boho small/medium knotless. Let’s be clear, in advance of my appointment I was informed they did not provide human hair and was given info on where to purchase. Since I had to buy human hair, I told her I would get the braiding hair as well. I brought extra of both to ensure I had enough. Upon arrival, Lima inquired about how many bundles I wanted and I explained this was my first time and I brought extra. She told me the style only requires 2 bundles to which I obliged. I told her I didn’t want it too full or too long. I had not selected a specific style but sent multiple pictures to ensure I was booking the correct service. No mention of the styles in advance so upon arrival I inquired about a few, one with a flip over Fulani and the others just individuals. Lima recommended individuals since they last longer, but said Ume could do either and I could decide when she got to the top of my head. Nevertheless, I went with Lima’s recommendation again and did individuals. At no point did she mention there would be additional charges over what I originally booked. Had she mentioned it then, I would’ve happily obliged. When she came back and reviewed what was owed using Booksy, I saw additional items she added without my knowledge. I simply inquired about the additional charges and she did not take time to explain, she just said you used more bundles and got curls, despite the fact she told me 2 bundles was sufficient. Unfortunately, I don’t speak bundle versus grams. Paid via Zelle per her request and still tipped Ume for the wonderful job. She only responded via text after my review that she was basing charges on grams, which I appreciated, but clearly she missed the point based on her response to my review. It’s just good business to alert your client of cost during the consultation and also inform them when there are additional charges to their service in advance. I was hoping to return but first impressions matter. Lima reached out immediately after my review and explained that 100 g is included in the service and the $75 was for an additional 100g used during my visit. As a 1st time customer, it was helpful to have this clarified, but would’ve been more helpful at the onset. Show more

Thank you so much Tanisha for the review , while booking all the details are online you booked for regular s/m boho I assisted you since the day you book by sending you all the details about the hair and I even told you (100g of 20inch) , when you select a style the add ons pop up directly if you have extra bundles there is a charge for that, EVERYTHING IS TRANSPARENT AND ALL THE STEP IS CLEAR ABOUT THE ADD ONS (braiding hair, extra 200g , extra 300g etc...) and you didn't ask for full or extra bundles that's why when you brought 4 bundles (400g) I asked you how you want your boho , even while you were in the chair trying to change style and sizes at the last minute I even assisted you and explained everything ( like you notice she's not fluent in English ) cause I wanted to make sure before she start and work with the time range cause there where another customer after you I even change her time cause adding extra bundles take more time , FOR THE BRAIDING HAIR ($30) I removed it when you reminded me you bought your own hair you didn’t get charged for that , I’m sorry about everything

I recently had my hair braided at African Braids by Lima. Lima had valid concerns about the condition of my hair. However her concerns were more focus...ed on making sure that I would be satisfied with how my hair would turn out. The customer service she showed me was exceptional. Although she was not my braider she stayed in consistent communication with the braider to give recommendations of what would be the best style for me. My hair came out perfectly. The braider made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process. It’s only been 2 days and I’m already getting a ton of compliments. I would definitely recommend African Braids by Lima to anyone who wants to have quality braids done. Show more
