Booking an appointment is pointless. Arrived for my 10:15 appt and no one touched my head until 12pm. Now I’m 2 hours behind schedule smh. Imagine hav...ing booked an appointment in advance and you sit there untouched while walk-in’s are being serviced smh. The front desk girl didn’t even say anything, a braider had to stop me because I was about to walk out. The work is good but professionalism is lacking on the scheduling. If mondays are short staffed we shouldn’t be able to book appointments in mondays. Show more

Went yesterday and brought my own blended blonde hair (which I was questioned - they only provide 3 colors, so I brought what I wanted) I had one pers...on start the first row and have another finish the back. I waited 45 min before someone came to finish the rest. I booked an appt for 7p and it’s advertised as 4 hours for small knotless waist length (no boho). My appt took 7 hours!!!! My hair is not waist length, the braids are all uneven, and they are not the same size throughout. $280 for this and I’m ready to take it out. I’m from Virginia and this is horrible rushed work that I am not used to. I’m also a retired stylist of over 15 years. My hair was stiff when I left and the 6 inches of my hair was left unbraided and just dipped. I had to come home and rod it and dip it myself. If my husband didn’t pay for this as a birthday gift I’d take this out. My 15 year old niece could have done better than this Show more

Yesterday was my last time going to this salon. I have been there several times and I’m always pleased with my service but almost 12 hours?! In no rea...lity should it take 12 hours for some waist length small box braids, no boho, nothing fancy…just box braids. I arrived around 8:15 and I left at 8:05. The service was not great from the beginning. The person at the front desk wanted to charge me an extra $20 to blend a color that was already prepackaged. She was rude when she told me I’d have to get smaller braids, which meant I’d have to pay more…which I understood, but there’s a way to speak to customers. The main person doing my hair must have been a beginner because there’s no way an experienced braider braided that slow! She spent a lot of time on her phone and talking to the her colleagues and she stopped numerous times to show her colleagues something on her phone. You’d think the colleagues would leave her be so she could attend to her customer…but no! It was so aggravating! The braider that helped out her business and kept coming back to pick up the slack. She literally helped out, left to do someone else’s hair, and came back to help again. I normally tip really well but the way my entire day was consumed by this appointment and the lack of customer service…there was no way I was tipping. Show more

My thoughts? The manager is unprofessional, inconsiderate of people’s time, and has horrible communication skills. I would NOT recommend this salon. A...fter receiving the infamous “Hey Hun” text at 11:49 PM the night before my 8 AM Easter Sunday appointment, what should’ve been a simple salon visit ended with the cops being called on me—as I sat peacefully trying to figure out my next steps to get my hair done four days before vacation. I booked this appointment over a month ago, but they tried to cancel or reschedule last minute because they were “short-staffed due to the holiday and the workers wanting to go to church.” Easter comes every year, so why not plan accordingly? Why open time slots if you didn’t have enough staff? The manager told me to come at 1 PM “when they opened,” which I agreed to. But when I arrived, they told me I’d have to pay an extra $130 (on top of the $285) for two bundles of human hair for my boho braids—or go get my own. Here’s the kicker: I spoke to the owner at 7:30 AM that same morning to confirm the appointment because no one responded to my text or call the night before. She didn’t mention the extra charge. I even asked a few days prior what the cost would be—no response. I spoke to her again two days before the appointment because I hadn’t received a confirmation. So she had multiple opportunities to tell me I’d need to provide my own hair or pay extra. Had I known earlier, I could’ve prepared. Instead, it felt like a trap—wait until the last second so I’d be stuck and forced to pay more. Naturally, I was upset. We went back and forth on the phone since she wasn’t present, and she was dismissive—telling me I “just need to decide” but she had to get back to her clients. Then her staff walked away from me with her still on the phone. I followed them inside, trying to figure out what was going to happen, and I saw a girl whose boho braids were nearly done. I asked, “How did you just open if her hair is almost finished? Why was my appointment moved but hers wasn’t?” There were several other girls getting their hair done too. I asked who would be doing my hair—they just kept saying to call the manager. I did. She didn’t answer. So I sat down. One of the bigger staff members tried to intimidate me, asking me to go to the front. I said no—call the manager back. I need my hair done. Only one young lady was apologetic and kind, but the damage was done. The staff kept speaking in their language, giving me dirty looks. The kind girl told me someone would do my hair if I went to the beauty supply to get it. I had just driven 35 minutes to get there, but I agreed. Then she said I had to pay for the service upfront before they started. I laughed—what? In my 43 years, I’ve never paid for a service before receiving it. She said it’s policy and even brought out a sign saying they braid a quarter of the way, then you pay. So I asked the girl with almost-finished braids if she had paid—she said no. I asked another girl across the room—she also said no. So I asked again: why am I being treated differently? The answer? “We just opened”—which clearly wasn’t true. I went back to the front, quietly trying to figure out what to do. I started calling around to see if I could get my hair done elsewhere. The energy was too toxic, and honestly, I didn’t trust them with my hair anymore. But if I couldn’t find another option, they were going to have to do it. As I sat there silently, one of the rude workers came out to sit and watch me—then disappeared again. A few minutes later, a cop walked in. The officer looked confused and asked if I was “the one.” I’m guessing they lied and said I was being irate or refusing to leave—which never happened. They never even asked me to leave. The officer told me they wanted me to go, so I got up and left. The whole experience was unprofessional, humiliating, and shady. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. Let me just say, my braids look fabulous as usual, BUT my appointment started over 2 hours late and ran past 1 am! The shop was overbooked and the sta...ff seemed very unconcerned about timeliness. I understand being a few minutes late, but 2 hours and no update or apology until the very end. Lots of other clients were upset and had to cancel other plans/appointments due to poor time management. The braiders were chit-chatting, laughing hysterically, and looking on their phones taking their sweet time, in no rush at all to service clients with appointments. I’m all for having fun, but don’t stop braiding my hair to have a good laugh with your BFF. I’ll be honest, I’ve been to Givens numerous times because their braids hit every single time, but the customer service really needs improvement. When I’m paying darn near $300, I expect for my time to be respected! Show more

Had one braider halfway do the top of my hair and she said she would finish the top after the back was done (never came back) then another braider cam...e to do the back (not at same time) took 11hrs total I was exhausted but my hair turned out great Show more

Yeah… NEVERRRRRR visiting this shop again!!! My appointment was scheduled for 5 pm and no one started on my hair until 6 PM. Two people did my hair in... which the first person took a 30 minute break and was slowly moving around in between hair prep and yes that’s after an hour delay in starting in my hair. She also blasted her phone quite loudly which annoyed other patrons as well. A second person and much slower person finished the job after another 25-30 minute wait in between the two. 3 different bags and brands of hair later, my hair is done although I now have no idea how old or raggedy some of the hair they scrapped up to find and throw in my hair is. If you did not have enough bags in the same brand to finish my hair, then you should’ve told me to pick a different color! This is also the longest it’s ever taken for me to get any twists and there were people in the shop with long boho braids that were in and out before me. The second person that did my hair also had a different method of twisting which is visible from the start of my twists. Oh, and how about the twists in the back are LARGER than the ones in the front and some of my ends are braided instead of twisted. A 4.5 hour appointment that turned into 7 and my hair is messed up for my birthday! So much for giving the African braiding shops a chance again! Show more
