Barber’s Flyin’ They say when Michelangelo looked at a block of marble, he could see his creation already entombed inside: his role was merely to fre...e it. Whilst the decadence of the high renaissance era has longed passed, artists still thrive for their perfection within their craft to the same exacting standards. Our protagonist, as always, hails not from Florence, Italy, but heritage town in Lancashire. Whilst not having the Santa Maria del Fiore to inspire our artistic savant, his perfection for his craft is nonetheless to exacting standards. Before placing sheer to hair, fingers roam through the hair like whisp of sea breeze: so quaint, should the mirror not provide an impression of the artist at work, one would wonder if indeed it was wind. Surely there are fewer frictionless fingers in the land than Matthew’s. As he goes to work, silence adorns the woollen face: stern, yet inquisitive. You oftentimes wonder if you should disturb such computational prowess as he surveys the land he is to sculpt in front of him. With tireless adorn, Matthew sweeps hair into neat and even chaff and stubble, it’s clear the rolling hills of Lancashire have inspired his adept neatness having grown up watching the harvesters turn the fields over, as he came back from the shop with a loaf of bread down cobbled streets. As the finale approaches, a wry smile and glance of approval is met by a nod: only men can communicate so much with so little facial expressions. Hugs exchanged, monies handed o’er, a walk back into whalley village caps off an allround excellent exposè from adorning motorist admiring the new trim and the craft of Matthew’s prowess. Show more
